 | VAUGHAN WILLIAMS Ralph Vaughan Williams (12 October 1872 – 26 August 1958) was an English composer & during a long and extensive career, he composed music notable for its power, nobility & expressiveness, representing, perhaps, the essence of 'Englishness'. Williams worked on numerous musical genres, which included nine symphonies, five operas, film music, ballet & stage music, several song cycles, church music & works for chorus & orchestra. His writings on music remain thought-provoking, particularly his oft-repeated call for all persons to make their own music, however simple, as long as it is truly their own.
